Paul A Marz, 93, of South Bend passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 12, 2022. Paul was born on August 13, 1928, in Canton, Ohio, to George and Audrey (Forney) Marz, and grew up on Meyers Lake. After graduating from Canton's Lincoln High School in 1946, Paul served five years in the US Navy. Using his GI Bill benefits, he earned his BS degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 1956. A dedicated fan of Notre Dame sports, he attended live events (mostly football, basketball and baseball) from the 1940's to the 2020's and held season basketball tickets for over 40 years. On September 1, 1958, he married his wife of 63 years, Jane Ann Gember, who survives him. He is also survived by his five children, Mark (Sue) Marz of Michigan City, Mary (William) Hutchens of Indianapolis, Michael (Alexandrina) Marz of Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, Martha (Vincent) Fortunato of St. Louis, Missouri and Matthew Marz of Indianapolis; seven granddaughters: Monica, Angela, Rose, Veronica Jane, Antonia, Veronica Lynn and America. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Glen. During his 42 years of employment with the federal government, he worked on many projects, including the Talos missile and Humvee utility vehicle for the Defense Department. In retirement, in addition to hosting numerous family and friends for holidays and Notre Dame Football weekends, he and Jane traveled the world, including stops on all seven continents. In 2017, he was presented the Annette M. Macknick Courage Award by St. Joseph County Right to Life for his lifelong dedication to the sanctity of human life. He lead a long life dedicated to serving family, friends, God, Country and Notre Dame. Paul was dearly loved and his calm and steady presence will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am on Monday, June 20, at St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church in South Bend, where Paul was a member for 60 years.
