Philip M. Weldy

June 13, 1972 — December 30, 2017

Philip Matthew Weldy, 45, passed into the loving arms of his Savior on December 30, 2017, after injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident. He didn't want to die young, but he said he didn't fear death and that the Lord could take him when it was His time.
Philip was born June 13, 1972 in Elkhart, IN to Philip and Sherry (Melton) Weldy. His father, Philip Weldy; and brother, Benjamin, preceded him in death.
Left to cherish his memory are: his mother, Sherry; two sisters, Sara (Tad) Swoape of Elkhart and Allie P. Weldy of Granger; three children, Angel D. Shoffner, Philip D. Andrew Weldy III, and Bryce Benjamin Christian Weldy; the mother of his children, Heather Weldy; two nephews, Tad "TJ" Swoape, Jr. and Bentley A. Swoape; four aunts, Carol (Merrill) Whitlock of Ohio, Sandy (Roman) Cisneros of Houston, TX, Joan (Tom) Johnson of Elkhart, and Sharon Weldy of Granger; and two uncles, Ross (Linda) Weldy of Elkhart, and Rob (Wendy) Melton of Osceola. He is also cherished by his Great Aunt, Joan Melton of Mishawaka; and 15 cousins: Newell Weldy, Jennifer (John) Weldy Beaird, Krystal (George) Bush, Brenda Gardner, and Steve, Bruce, Paul, Joel, Curt, Cary, Cyle and Cwen Weldy, and Brooklyn, Calie-Sue, and Sydney Melton.
Philip was a man with much integrity. He had a heart for serving God and had an unwavering faith. He was the best son a parent could ask for. While he had a strong will as a child, and made it difficult at times to parent him, that strong will is why he stayed the course of following Jesus. "Teach a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it." (Prov. 22:6) After Phil's divorce, he came home to help take care of his father. He never had the opportunity to serve in the military, but he was extremely patriotic and held a high regard for our flag. He will be dearly missed, but we will see him again!
