Richard L. Harris passed away peacefully on June 20,2017, just shy of his 91st birthday.
He was born June 23, 1926 to the late Roy Edward and Ertice Mildred (Duncan) Harris. He was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Nathan White.
On May 8, 1948, Richard married the love of his life, Barbara (Weaver) Harris. She preceded him in death in 2015. To their union, they were blessed with four children, Carol (John) White of Cassopolis, MI, Pam (Charles) Whetstone of Granger, Karla Clark of New Smyrna Beach, FL and Richard "Skip" Harris of Virginia Beach, VA. He is also survived by four siblings, Jeanette (Phil) McGriffin of Gilbert, AZ, Carolyn (John) Underhill of Granger, Ronald (Marilyn) Harris of South Bend; and Judy Tovey of Noblesville, IN; 8 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Richard had a gift of communication. He was always the life of the party and never met a stranger. He was devoted to his family and to his country. He proudly served in the Navy and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was a member of the St. Joseph County Home Owner's Association, and was an avid hunter. He worked as an electrician, and often in a supervisory role, for both Bellville and LaPlace Electric Companies. He retired after 40 years in the industry. He will be dearly missed.
The family will hold private services. He will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Barbara, at Fairview Cemetery.
