Robert Edwin Stewart, 53, of Union, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on June 25, 2022. He was born on October 13, 1968 in Jackson, Michigan to the late Charles and Joyce Stewart. He was the youngest of three siblings, which included his late brother Rick and sister, Joyce (Jan) Wood of Delaware. He met his wife Janelle (Niemann) while they were both working for United Technologies Automotive. They were married on November 9, 1996, recently celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary. They have two children, a son, Jake (21) and a daughter, Samantha (17). Rob graduated from Central Michigan University where he earned a degree in biology. He worked at American Axle in Detroit and Lear Corporation in Mendon, Michigan, and spent the past several years consulting in the automotive industry.Rob was a fun-loving, kind-hearted, and generous man. He had many friends with whom he stayed in close contact and spent time. He loved living on Baldwin Lake and spending time on the water-boating, skiing, and hanging out at the sand bar. He enjoyed golfing, playing euchre with long-time friends, and bonfires with the neighbors and friends at the lake. He always kept a bountiful garden and was an excellent cook. Experiencing one of his meals was a sure delight. Rob was also an accomplished amateur photographer with an artist's spirit and a knack for capturing the moment. His constant companion was his dog, Trapper and, recently, his new puppy, Milo. Rob would often pull up to school to pick up one of the kids with Trapper at his side hanging out of the window. Rob was deeply devoted to his wife, Janelle, and to his children. His greatest passion was being a father to Jake and Samantha. He loved being home with his kids, and supported them energetically in whatever interest they pursued. Rob's pride in both of his children was clearly evident in the glint of his eye whenever he spoke of them or shared photos of their latest adventures. He coached both for most of their lives in soccer, baseball, and basketball, along with hundreds of other young people. Serving as coach, mentor, and team manager, Rob coordinated countless practices, games, and tournaments and covered endless miles driving to and from games. He was instrumental in organizing and launching the Edwardsburg Middle School soccer program, and was the president of the Edwardsburg Soccer Boosters. The master scheduler, Rob planned all of the family vacations. They recently enjoyed trips together to Gatlinburg, Florida, and Hawaii. Rob's wit, quick smile, and giant heart were known to all who met him. He was compassionate, patient, and inclusive - always empathizing with others. For Rob, there was always room for one more. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family and friends.Rob is survived by his loving wife, Janelle, children; Jake and Samantha; his sister, Jan; and many nieces and nephews.
