Sally H. Brumer

Sally H. Brumer, 83, passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, following several health challenges.
She was born April 1, 1934 to the late Fred and Esther (Leibow) Heimann. Originally from South Bend, Sally was raised in Lima, Ohio, and returned to Michiana when she married Jerome "Jerry" Brumer. Her husband of 60 years, Jerry; her son, Barry; son-in-law, Sholom Gliksman; and sister, Billie Manis, all preceded her in death.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Carol Brumer Gliksman and Susan Brumer; daughter-in-law, Marcia Mahony; son-in-law, David Hausknecht; grandchildren: Matthew and Elana; and niece, Deena.
Sally graduated with a bachelor degree in English. She was a needlecraft expert, including original canvas designs, and was the former owner of Sally's Stitchery and Needlepoint. A longtime member of Sinai Synagogue, she helped arrange the original library. Sally embodied leadership, having served as a past president of the local Hadassah chapter and was active in a women's interfaith dialogue group and Sinai Sisterhood. A lifelong learner, she was an avid reader, juggling multiple books at a time on an array of subjects from science fiction to religion, mystery and history. She appreciated good humor. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and was a Scrabble maven. She generously welcomed guests into her home and was well known for her delicious recipes. She traveled throughout North America and internationally. Sally was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and community.
Services will be held in the chapel at the Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery on Monday, January 8 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Sinai Synagogue, the Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley, Hadassah, or the Center for Hospice Care.
