Sara Bogan Brook

November 19, 1916 — November 14, 2017

Sara Bogan Brook was born on November 19, 1916. She was almost 101 when she died November 14, 2017 at NorthWoods Village in Mishawaka, IN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Brook.

Sara and Milt moved to South Bend from Chicago in 1947. They had the foresight to know that South Bend would be a great place to raise a family. Milt died in 1981, and Sara, a fiercely independent and determined woman, persevered. She was a classy, kind lady who was most always positive and open minded. She welcomed new ideas and changes in society. Sara was a voracious reader and a brilliant word master. She was hard to beat at Scrabble, which she played until the last few months. She sewed, needlepointed, and learned to cook gourmet meals. She played a great game of tennis, and she exercised every day for most of her life. As a volunteer, she worked for the Sinai Synagogue Sisterhood, the Bnai Brith Women, and Hadassah. She also enjoyed playing maj jong and bridge. Her life was full.

Most of all, Sara was an amazing mother who supported her three daughters in all of their endeavors and cherished her six grandchildren and 11 great grand children. Her love will be remembered by her daughters: Marsha Brook (Fred Kahn) of Granger, Donna Wexler (Mort) of Jupiter, FL, and Gail Boster of Reston VA., her grandchildren: Todd Brook Silverman, (Jennie),St Louis, MO; Lisa Lerman( Bill) of South Bend: Abby Hahn (Eran) of St Louis, Dana Youkilis of Long Island NY, Jeremy Youkilis of Jupiter, FL, Micah Boster of NY, and great grandchildren: Esti, Eli, Zahava, and Ezra Silverman; Max, Ari, and Josh Lerman; Noa, Yael and Orli Hahn, and Ayden Farish.

Services will be held on Thursday, November 16, at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery, Jefferson and Logan (enter East on Jefferson at Calhoun Street) in Mishawaka, IN, Rabbi Karen Companez, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Milton and Sara Brook Jewish Family Services Endowment Fund of the Jewish Federation, 3202 Shalom Way, South Bend, IN 46615 or to Sinai Synagogue or Temple Beth El.
