Sherman "Leon" Borders, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on March 4, 2023, at the age of 94.
He was born on September 7, 1928, in Jasonville, Indiana to parents, Sherman and Cleo Borders. He moved to South Bend as a teenager to find work and remained in the area for the rest of his life. From a previous marriage, he had three children, Dale, Devon, and Becky. On November 4, 1972, he married the love of his life, Elaine, and adopted her two sons, Jim and Steve. Together, they were married for 50 years and had a beautiful life together.
Sherman was a man of many talents and passions. He was an avid hunter and loved spending time on the golf course with his sons and friends. He loved dogs, raising chickens and goats, and camping. He built houses before beginning his career as a Fuller-O'Brian paint plant manager, where he worked for over 40 years before retiring.
Sherman's greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and many lifelong friends. He cherished every moment he spent with them and was always eager to lend a helping hand. He had a kind heart, a contagious smile, an infectious laugh, and an unwavering dedication to his family.
Sherman was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Dale and Devon; and his 3 brothers and 3 sisters. He leaves behind his children, Becky, Jim (Roberta), and Steve (Lori); as well as eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews who will all miss him dearly.
Sherman will be remembered as a loving husband, a devoted father, and a loyal friend. He had a lasting impact on the lives of those around him and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of kindness, love, and generosity will live on through his family and friends for generations to come.
Visitation will be held from 11-1, with the funeral following at 1p.m. on Saturday, March 25, at the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23, enter off Cherry Rd.
