Shirley Jeanette Hammer

Shirley Jeanette Hammer passed away on Saturday, August 6th, 2022 at the age of 87. Shirley was born on October 13, 1934 in South Bend, IN to the late David H. and Mary Louise (Hartung) Waldo.Shirley is survived by her sons, Patrick (Barb Deshone) Hammer and David (Tammy) Hammer; granddaughters, Carrie (Kieth) Newman and Halle Hammer; grandson, Patrick Hammer; greatgranddaughters, Madeline and Mallory Newman, and her companion of more than 30 years, Randy Shellito.Shirley was preceded in death by husband, Patrick Hammer; and brother, Ronald Sult. Shirley was a lover of life that came from very humble beginnings as a child. She grew up in South Bend, IN and at the age of 12 was sent to Colorado to stay with family so her mother could work during the war. Shirley returned back to the South Bend area around the age of 14 and soon met her husband of 39 years Patrick Hammer. She soon became a mother and loved the job of raising her two cherished sons Patrick & David. Her adventurous last 30 years were spent with her partner Randy. She cherished family gatherings and preparing her amazing food for them. Shirley loved shopping and looking for her favorite things made in leopard print. She also loved her daily calls with her best friend Aunt Patsy. She enjoyed camping and traveling this beautiful country with Randy. She traveled to the Grand Canyon 3 times, Sturgis 6 times and Daytona several times and experienced the beautiful scenery all on the back of a Harley. Shirley loved having fun going to the casino’s and most especially spending time with her friends and family. Birthday parties were her most favorite. She never missed the opportunity to make her loved ones birthdays special with a party. She cherished time with her grandchildren creating memories and traditions that will continue just the way she'd want it. She absolutely loved spending time on the porch with Randy watching the world go by. Shirley and her caring kind heart will be missed by so many.Funeral services for Shirley will take place on Wed. August 10th 2022 at 12p.m. at the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR23, Granger, enter at Cherry Rd. Visitation will be from 10-12am. Burial will immediately follow at Southlawn Cemetery in South Bend.
