We gather with heavy hearts to honor the life of Steven Wayne Felman, lovingly known as Steve. Born on March 13, 1951, in Malden, Massachusetts, to the late Irving Booker and Anne Dorothy (Burokoff) Felman. Steve was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose light shone brightly in the lives of all who knew him. On February 10th 2025, Steve passed away unexpectedly in South Bend, Indiana due to fatal injuries he sustained from a tragic accident the previous day on February 9th, 2025. Thus left a profound void in his family's hearts.
Steve's academic journey led him to achieve both a PhD and a Master’s Degree, showcasing his dedication to learning and his passion for knowledge. He found fulfillment in a successful career as a chemist at Siemens and Bayer, before embarking on a second career as a financial advisor after retirement. His career was a testament to his intellect and work ethic, but it was his personality that truly defined him. He was light-hearted and kind, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear.
Steve was a rock for his family; anyone could approach him for guidance without fear, knowing he would provide support selflessly, never expecting anything in return.Steve had a zest for life that manifested through his many hobbies and interests. He shared a love for travel, particularly through the beautiful landscapes of Europe, mostly the UK and Ireland. His fascination with cultural history and historical coins spoke to his thirst for knowledge and appreciation for the past.
Recently, he expressed an earnest desire to return to golf, a testament to his hopes and aspirations that would remain forever unfulfilled. Steve had a big heart, especially for animals, and his affection for Golden Retrievers brought him joy.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Cheryl, who stood steadfast by his side throughout their journey together. Their children—Stephanie (Gabriel) Gutierrez, Andrew Felman, Aaron (Courtney Tam) Felman, and Amy (Drew) Van-De-Wielle—carry forward Steve's legacy with pride. He is also adored by his grandchildren: Matt, Sean, and Hannah Wilson; Tori (Alec) Fendrick; Jacob Gutierrez; Ella Van-De-Wielle; and Morgan Felman. The warmth of his spirit will undoubtedly be felt in the laughter and love shared among his family. Also left to cherish his memory are his brothers, Michael and Harvey (Mary) Felman, alongside many nieces, nephews, and cousins, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
Steve was preceded in death by his son, Mark Wilson, a loss that left a lasting impact on his family.
As we come together to celebrate Steve's incredible life, we invite you to join us for a funeral service on February 16, 2025, at McGann Hay, University Chapel, 2313 E Edison Rd. in South Bend, Indiana, at 2:00 p.m., where we will remember a man whose kindness and generosity changed lives.
