Virginia Ann O’Hara passed away peacefully at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center on April 17, 2024, surrounded by her children.
She was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 8, 1925 to the late Owen and Virginia (Blom) McCarthy, and she had four siblings who preceded her in death: Eugene, Walter, Robert and Ronald.
She attended the former Marygrove College where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry.
Ginger married Francis Raymond O’Hara on February 12, 1949; and they celebrated 65 years of years of marriage before his passing in 2014. They were the proud parents of Kevin Michael O’Hara who passed away in 1995, and Maureen (Jerry Nitka) O’Hara and Kerry (Maureen) O’Hara. She was blessed with four grandchildren, Ginger (John) Haesler, Sean (Ann) O’Hara, Sarah (Ross) Kyle, and Patrick (Emily) O’Hara; and 12 great-grandchildren: John Owen, Keegan William, Maura Jane, and Aela Elizabeth Haesler; Caitlin Elizabeth and Eileen Ann O’Hara, daughters of Sarah Park O’Hara; Edward Francis, Patrick McKenzie, and Samuel O’Hara Kyle; and Finnegan David, Violet Ann, and Liam Kerry O’Hara.
An avid Notre Dame sports fan for over 50 years and devoted volunteer for Christ Child Society, Ginger enjoyed her family to the fullest, spending 35 summers on Corey Lake in Three Rivers, Michigan.
Per her wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Christ Child Society of South Bend (https://www.christchildsb.org/how-to-donate) and YMCA Camp Eberhart in Three Rivers (https://campeberhart.ymcagm.org/give).
