William "Bill" Edward Miller passed away peacefully on September 23, 2022 at the age of 94. Bill was born to the late Joseph Emmett and Bernice (Gallagher) Miller on February 1, 1928. He was the oldest of 5 siblings.He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and the University of Notre Dame. Bill also served in the U.S. Army and completed a tour in China.Bill married Mary Jo Hurstel on February 14, 1953, she survives. From that union of 69 years, they were blessed with 4 children: Maureen Miller (Thomas Tamm), Tim (Susan) Miller and Carolyn (Dan) Rupchock; siblings, Mary Lou (Ken) Shearon and Jerry Miller; 3 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas; and siblings, Sue Miller Zehnpfenig Leeman and Robert Miller.Bill worked for Whirlpool, Prudential and State Farm before becoming a Pharmaceutical Representative for CIBA, later CIBA-Geigy.After retirement, Bill used his skills as a pianist to entertain at nursing homes, Memorial hospital and at St. Paul's Retirement Community where he and Mary Jo resided the last 4 years. He also enjoyed volunteering as a transporter at Memorial Hospital. Bill believed that service to others was important and always tried to practice kindness and generosity with everyone.Bill was active in several local organizations including: The Ancient Order of Hibernians, the South Bend Press Club, the Elks Male Chorus, St. Vincent De Paul Society and was a member of St. Jude's Parish.A Memorial Mass will take place on October 6, 2022 at St. Jude's Catholic Church, 19704 Johnson Rd., South Bend at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m.Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude's Parish or Hannah's House.To send private condolences, please visit: http://www.mcgannhay.com/condolences.html
