On Wednesday, July 20, 2016, Mr. Yves R. Lonchampt, 91, joined the Lord in Heaven after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Boufarik, Algeria on May 24, 1925 to Anthony and Emilie Lonchampt. They preceded him in death along with his two brothers: Roger and Camille (Conchita.)Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jacqueline Navarro Lonchampt; a son, Pierre (Valerie) Lonchampt; a daughter, Sophie Gruais; a stepdaughter, Elizabeth Navarro; stepson: Brian (Sandy) Navarro; eight grandchildren: Ann, Marie, Pauline, Sebastian,Emilie, Clement, Katherine (John) and Monica; and three great-grandchildren: Daniel, Theodore and Alicia.Yves was a fighter pilot trained by the US Air Corps from 1944 - 1945 in Orangeburg, South Carolina and Selfridge Field, Michigan. He went on to fly and fight in the Algerian War from 1958 - 1962. In 1962, he relocated to Versailles, France, where he practiced Law for over 30 years. In 1992, Yves became reacquainted with Jacqueline Navarro and they were married in 1993. Yves became an American Citizen in 2000 and became a loyal patriot of the United States.Yves was a member of the American Legion, President of the Lions Club International in Versailles, France, a member of the Lions Club in Elkhart, Junto, Knollwood Country Club, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, Niles Art Association, EAA 132 (Experimental Aviation Association) in Elkhart, Indiana, a member of the French Pilot's Association, trained in the USA, a US Army Air Force Veteran, Major in the French Air Force, and decorated by Charles DeGaulle with the Legion of Honor.Yves loved to play Bridge, bird watch, and travel; and was an avid oil painter and artist.Visitation will be Saturday, July 30th from 11:00-12:00, with a memorial service at Noon, at the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23, enter off Cherry Rd., Rev. Bill Meininger, Associate Pastor at St. Pius X Catholic Church, officiating. A military honors service to follow. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to the charity of your choice.
